The Inbetweeners 2+

By DJ Forrest

It does seem like we’ve gone overboard on the Inbetweeners this month but its difficult not to leave it with just a review, especially since discovering a few familiar faces along the way during S1, 2 & 3, then the films of course.  So while I sat through several more reruns of the brilliant series (on Netflix) I

Broadchurch: Doctor Who & Torchwood Connections
By DJ Forrest

WOAH LUCY COHU

It had to happen really!  You couldn’t have a fantastic brilliant show like Broadchurch, created by Chris Chibnall known for his involvement in Torchwood and Doctor Who to not have a star studded cast list of people who once appeared in Torchwood & Doctor Who.  Yet going through the initial cast list comprising of my favourite Time Lord David Tennant and the wonderful Olivia Colman, and not forgetting Gwen Cooper actress Eve Myles, there were quite a list of cast and indeed crew from both seasons that, well quite frankly amazed me.  I mean Lucy Cohu appearing as D.I. Hardy’s wife for a start, that was a surprise in Episode 3, who next?

Dad’s Army Connections by DJ Forrest

Dad’s Army – the Classic TV show

In 1968 a BBC television sitcom hit our screens that would have us laughing in our armchairs and muttering catchphrases for years to come.  Dad’s Army was written by Jimmy Perry and David Croft and told the story of the Home Guard during the Second World War.  It ran for 9 seasons and 80 episodes in total were aired.  There was a radio version, a feature film and a stage show.  The series ran till 1977.

Game of Thrones

By “ZombieAbaddon” Forrest

I thought it would be easy to explain Game of Thrones in a sentence, but after asking a few people who had read the novels and watched the first three seasons; this seems to be an impossible task.  So I watched a few episodes of the first season and to those who have never seen the series before...and

Doctor Who & Torchwood
Connections
By Mickie Newton

We have now entered into the final of our three Doctor Who sidesteps “The Last of the Time Lords” where we find our hero, Captain Jack Harkness, tied up on the Valiant (don’t think he’s enjoying it though), along with the good Doctor, who has been aged by the Master. Meanwhile Martha is traveling the earth sharing a secret on how to defeat the Master.

Pika-Who?
Ten Vs Looker
By DJ Forrest

Many years ago, when the world was firing off Pokémon in all directions, on all television and internet adverts, candy lollipops with Pokémon characters in their centres, the catchphrase ‘Gotta Catch ‘em All’ a constant reminder to parents that the craze was nowhere near over yet, and the collectable figures that were all the rage – now costing an absolute fortune for the rarest of rarities on eBay; a character caught my attention.  A character that wasn’t a Pokémon trainer, nor was he a Pokémon, but he was nevertheless a character within the game and his name was Looker.

Jonathan Creek
Doctor Who &Torchwood Connections
By DJ Forrest

In 1997, a drama series that would span over 7 seasons starring Alan Davies and Caroline Quentin as two puzzle solvers, one from the world of magic and the other from the world of investigative journalism, would blow the lid off the impossible crime cases.  It was light hearted humour with a twist of evil genius, capped off with a host of familiar stars from the world of both Who and Torchwood as well as other well known drama and situation comedies spanning the ‘70’s right through to present day.

It’s now issue 16 and the second of our Doctor Who sidesteps where we follow Jack on a new adventure with the 10th Doctor and his present companion, Martha Jones. Here in this addition of Doctor Who and Torchwood Connections we are going to have connections between the Doctor Who episode The Sound of Drums and the Torchwood series. So in this issue we go spotting the ‘Vote Saxon’ posters, Captain Jack’s Vortex Manipulator being used for its main purpose and another face seen in Doctor Who and Torchwood, Trinity Wells, anchor woman for AMNN TV.

It’s amazing what you can stumble on sometimes. We were watching an episode of the 1970’s situation comedy Terry and June on the 13th June 2014 on the channel Drama. Part way through the episode Doctor Who gets a mention. I decided to do a mentions article that developed also into a connections article.

Doctor Who and Torchwood
Connections
By Mickie Newton

For Christmas I got a brilliant book. ‘The TARDIS Handbook’ by Steve Tribe and in it was a picture that triggered an idea. The image was a strange thing, looking like crayons sticking out from a ball. And it was something I’d seen somewhere before. Then I watched an episode of Torchwood and there it was. On the meeting room table!  And then I found myself thinking ‘I wonder how many more things connect the two shows?’ As you will have noticed, there is already an article in this issue that connects the film ‘Hot Fuzz’ with, mostly, Doctor Who and Torchwood. And that was just people. Not things.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer
By DJ Forrest

The first ever Buffy episode was broadcast on 10th March 1997 and featured a young Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy Summers who was a student in LA who moved to the quieter town of Sunnydale after causing a fire at her old school.  She was labelled a trouble maker and was skating on thin ice with every principal after that.  Her grades were lousy but there was a reason – she was a Slayer and out most nights, so failed to complete hardly any of her homework.  She had super human strength, was a Chosen One, and was there solely to protect the human population from the Underworld that prowled the dark streets.

And not only do you point that out, but you go into detail of who they played and the episode/s they appeared in? If you say never, I don’t believe you? Call yourself fans!
