Articles Ross O'Hennessy

Born in 1974 in the small Welsh town of Pontllanfraith, Ross O’Hennessy grew up knowing that he wanted to tread the boards like all the Welsh greats. He studied hard and followed his dreams to London where he split his time between auditioning for Drama Schools and auditioning for the National Youth Theatre.   Before long he was soon treading the boards in several Youth Theatre productions including Shakespeare’s The Tempest.

Having met Lionel Bart after a successful run in the West End, Ross then attended Theatrical school to harness his natural acting abilities and moved to Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts after winning the Sir John Mills Scholarship. He had been personally chosen over a large number of budding actors by screen legend Sir John Mills himself.

As well as theatre Ross has been involved in television, films and commercials. In many of the roles that are listed, they have mostly been soldiers and police officers. He fits the role perfectly.  At 5’10”, he’s stocky built and physically fit. Judging by his Skills Portfolio he’s definitely not the kind of person you’d want to tackle – in a fight!

Ross teaches Krav Maga – a contact combat.  It’s a non competitive tactical martial system that focuses on real world situations and extremely efficient and brutal counter attacks. Its origins lie in street fighting.  Although those who train in this are taught to avoid conflict where possible, you’d really have to think twice before antagonising someone who especially knew how to handle themselves in a fight.

Although I’ve not met Ross, the way his interview came across he sounds the most entertaining of people and quite unlike the roles he plays, including the abrupt Sgt Johnson who didn’t like the intrusion of Gwen Cooper in his tent in ‘Day One’. One of these days I’ll have to wander along to the medieval village and go on one of his historical tours I think it would be quite entertaining!
